Sources: Athletics expected to sign Cuban OF Darian Rojas

I saw Rojas as the most well-rounded U-18 player in Cuba in 2024.

The Athletics are the favorites to sign Cuban outfielder Darian Rojas when a new international signing period opens on January 15, 2026, sources recently told Beisbol FR.

Rojas, 19, was declared a free agent by the MLB Commissioner’s Office on August 12.

The Havana-born player was part of Cuba’s U-18 national team at the Pan-American Championship in Panama in August 2024. Ten months later, on June 5, 2025, Rojas arrived in the Dominican Republic with the ambition of securing a deal with an MLB organization.

Rojas belongs to the JM Academy in Santo Domingo, the same one that signed 3B Alejandro Cruz in the current 2024–2025 international period with the Chicago White Sox for $2 million, and OF Maikol Rodriguez with the Seattle Mariners for $600,000.
