Cuban outfielder William Alvarez is expected to sign with the Athletics when the new international signing period begins on January 15, 2027, sources told Beisbol FR.
Alvarez trains at GT Baseball Academy in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and drew attention from several MLB organizations.
He is 16 years old and will turn 17 in December, making him eligible to sign in the 2027 international signing period due to his December birthdate.
Standing 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, with a powerful arm, plus bat speed and raw power, Alvarez projects as a talent with the potential to advance through an MLB system and eventually contribute at the Major League level.
