We started our July International Notes section a bit late due to the final days of the trade deadline. I thought it would be better to publish today, August 1, once the adrenaline from the whirlwind of trades had subsided. These past few days were relentless work covering another trade deadline, but always fun and exciting when all was said and done.
RHP Jefferson Sanchez suspended one year
We begin our July edition of International Notes with the news that Dominican right-hander Jefferson Sanchez will be suspended for one year due to age inconsistencies, multiple sources told Beisbol FR.
Back in our March section, we wrote about Sanchez’s potential and his pre-agreement with the San Diego Padres for around $900,000, featuring a fastball that ranged between 94–97 mph. However, just weeks later, Sanchez came under investigation based on his birth records, which revealed irregularities that ultimately showed the right-hander was one year older than initially claimed.
